The Questing BeastFar from the first story to lean on “hey, this blood-drinking imagery is really kinda creepy, isn’t it,” and definitely won’t be the last.

This is the first appearance of Lily (not counting the cover art), and the first instance of the “Beings are nephilim” theory.

There are, in turn, a whole bunch of theories about what “nephilim” refers to. In-universe Wikipedia would definitely put Beings on the list.

And…would they be wrong? The actual ID of Beings shows up in Genesis elsewhere, but would the stories of “giants” be an alternate attempt to explain them? Same as “dragons” are an explanation for dinosaur bones, or “the Questing Beast” sure sounds like a giraffe?

Man: Let us thank the Lord for this bounty while our dear sister Lily does the honors.

I say “sister,” but that should properly be “half-sister.” As a Fallen Being, our Lily is the child of a human and an angel. We are humbled and honored to have her share her grace with us.

All: Our Father, who art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.

Timothy (thinking): I hope this doesn’t hurt her.

All: Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done . . .

Sparrow: Oh, so it’s that kind of story.

Bianca: Mm. Can Patrick really be a nephilim?

Sparrow: “Naphil.” And I hope not, because that would seriously screw with my atheism.
