Annotated Chapter 30 Page 4

Air Bud posterThere's nothing in the rule book that says a Being can't generate magic answers!

This ties in with my personal choice to "if you had one wish, what would it be for?" Or the semi-related question, "if you got to pick a superpower, what would it be?"

Controlled omniscience.

You can't just ask to know everything, that's too much information for one human brain. You'd either have a psychotic break or flat-out die before you could actually do anything with it. And even if you don't have all of it downloaded at once, you need active control, or else you're bound to find out things you didn't want to know.

Just give me an on-demand fact-generator. An alethiometer and the skill to read it. I'll take it from there.

Miranda: It’s what happens in any story where someone finds a genie. They get a limited number of wishes, and they’re not allowed to use any of them to say . . .

. . . “I wish for infinite extra wishes.”

Walker: This cannot possibly be allowed.

Blake: Agreed, boss.

Walker: Putting stakes on the Game when you don’t know a battle is rigged? They can’t hold us to it. There must be a rule against it somewhere.

Blake: If there was . . . I feel like we would’ve found that out already, boss.

  1. There is a podcast I’m listening to. The hosts discuss their guests wishes and superpowers and try to find the flaws therein. Your power is a good one.
