(The next day.)
Patrick: Hmph.
Shamila: Patrick! It is you, yes? The boy who speaks like a native but reads more slowly than my mother? Come along! You are going to be late for class. Unless you have decided to stop?
Patrick: I can’t just decide to stop.
Shamila: Ah! How very admirable of you. What was your first language, if I may ask? Or was it English?
Patrick: No. But I’ve spoken English for a long time. It was years ago that I moved here.
Shamila: Ah. That’s how it is with my nephews. One day I will get them interested in the language of their family, insha’Allah.
I hope you are able to do the same.
Patrick: إن شاء الله
why was patrick spying on Bianca? 0_o
I think the real question here is “why is Patrick spying on the guy checking out library books?”
The loyal canine, trying to protect his master from strangers…?
Actually I suspect that is the mystery guy Patrick noticed talking to Bianca during his first visit to her workplace. You remember? The one who had so much of his attention on Bianca that he stumbled backwards into a book display?
Did we cover if Patrick can read any other modern languages or are they all too recent? Or is it a memory related issue?
It hasn’t come up.
Huh. Think Patrick wants to be Bianca’s lover?
I think there will be trouble if Patrick keeps speaking the native language of every person he meets fluently.
I think that last speech bubble is coming from the other room, not Patrick.
I think that’s just an artifact of the frame composition.
I wish I could speak the native language of every person I meet fluently. It would open many doors in life.
I have to say, as an retired Arabic linguist, I love your use of that language in your comic.
