Chapter 21 p24 – Walker style intimidation
Sparrow: Still there, Jany? I’ve got another one — but, listen, you promise you’re not asking because you plan to chase this Being down alone?
Jany: I solemnly swear that is not what I’m doing. Why?
Blake: Master? Jany texted. She wants to get the Cormorant.
Walker: Hrngh.
Morning.
Walker: You’re quite sure about this?
Jany: You filtered the options, and this is my choice, yes.
Walker: Then we’ll have to get you a more intimidating outfit for the occasion. Blake, show the girl an example.
Blake: Yes, boss.
(SWOOSH!)
(GROW!)
Jany: It’s lovely, but . . . I’ve been thinking that I want to wear trousers more often . . .
Eeeee! Cute little cub Blake!
Agreed! cute Blake. nice business wear, too.
Out of curiosity, is there any particular reason for Blake having any particular skin tone, when it and Walker are alone together? She’s blind, so, it feels like it’s a non-quality to her, unless she some how thinks that being discovered in [x situation] with a person of a particular race is beneficial in some fashion?
In private Blake sticks with the common forms he uses in public, out of habit.
For most of Walker’s life, if she was entering meetings with [someone who appeared to be] a white man, people would automatically defer to the white man. And with a black man, there would’ve been overwhelming racial animosity. So Blake’s go-to adult-male form is neither of these.
Good to know! Thanks for the answer
Huh. Big Cat reminds me of Dio from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
If Beings can’t read, and text-to-speech isn’t on, how does Blake know what Jany’s message is?
It’s Walker’s phone — text-to-speech is always on! Blake screens her messages, and only reports the important ones.
Jany what are you doing!
