Miranda (narrating): Dad was there for the funeral, but it was Patrick who got me through it.
After that, we were all living together, but Dad was still only around half the time.
Miranda’s father (on phone): Hey, sweetheart. I have a very important meeting in New York/Houston/Baltimore, so I won’t be able to be there for your horse show/birthday/middle school graduation.
Miranda (narrating): The rest of the time, he left me with Patrick.
Patrick: When do you want to see Pokemon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew?
Miranda: I don’t! Pokémon’s boring when you live with a real live battle monster.
Miranda (narrating): And even when we did manage to spend time together…
Miranda’s father: Do you want to come visit Chicago with me?
Miranda (narrating): …there were conflicts.
(STAB)
Miranda: Doesn’t that hurt?!
Patrick: They’re just scratches! Did you catch what I did to the other guy?
Miranda: Dad, how can you let Patrick fight when he comes out like this?
Miranda’s father: Settle down, Mandy. You have to remember that he’s not human.
It seems like the art won’t load for me today. :(
It’s not just you. We can’t even find where it should be in the source code.
This is what I get for changing my usual update procedure. It’s fixed now!
Well that explains the lack of therapy. Doesn’t excuse it, but does explain a lot.
I think that also explains why Patrick was as insecure as he was when first meeting Sparrow and Bianca, maybe? Patrick was Miranda’s guardian and she looked up to him. And somehow he was humiliated in front of her–and on top of that, his humiliation is related to his (in)ability to protect Miranda or live up to her expectations.
This strip seems to imply that Miranda saw the fight. Presumably, Cohen and Walker challenged and accepted, so Miranda could not have been present, could she?
An excellent question….
