February 14 is BICP’s first anniversary! Now I just have to think of something special to do in celebration. (Suggestions welcome!)
Sparrow: Hey, Bee! I’m home! And I brought leftover free pizza!
. . . so of course you’re already cooking something.
Bianca: Sorry!
Sparrow: Listen, it turns out I’m not going to make the play. We just stayed late at work organizing this last-minute protest for a Bennett speech tomorrow. I can’t get to the theater on time without slacking off on my proper share of standing with a sign.
Bianca: I hope the sign’s nice, at least.
Sparrow: It’s awesome!
It has this really terrible quote, followed by a drawing of Jesus looking shocked. I wanted him to be saying “WTF?”, but Dot didn’t think that would go over well.
Bennett: Do you think Jesus would approve of punishing success? Sure, he said if you had two coats you should give one to the poor, but he never mentioned anything about what to do if you have three houses!
Sparrow: Hear that, Patrick? You’re going in human form. Better think up a nice suit.
Patrick: I heard, Sparrow.
What is the actual regular update schedule anyway? I have not seen it posted anywhere.
And now Sparrow conveniently cannot go…
The schedule is on every page with the sidebars, at the top right: “Updates at noon, M-W-F.” It’s also mentioned on the “About” page ^_^
Has that moved or changed since? Or might I not see it because I use an uncommon web browser (Vivaldi)?
…yes, that text has been deleted, since it’s been more than ten years and the comic was finished in the meantime!
Ah, taking the Bible literally, that’s what I love about conservatives.
[ETA for clarity: this wasn’t written in response to the perfectly-fine comment it’s being displayed under. It was written in response to a terrible comment that’s been deleted.]
Unless you know of (to take just one example) children who have killed themselves due to liberal Christian policies, and liberal Christian adults who have actively ignored and dismissed these deaths, this comment is actively offensive.
Could you expand on this please? I honestly don’t know what you’re talking about, Erin. Unless it’s a touchy subject, in which case I withdraw the question.
There’s not really much to explain…
Conservative Christians have done a lot of awful things in the US. The example I referred to is that they enact policies that lead to the suicides of school-age kids, and refuse to accept the deaths as a sign that maybe they’re doing something wrong, dismissing criticism with “but we’re just being neutral, we’re totally not bigots, why are you politicizing this.” An article from just a few days ago details how these events have played out recently in one Minnesota town.
Liberal Christians…don’t do this. Or anything even in the same league as this.
Any person who says “most of” what liberal Christians do is “as bad as” the actions of conservative Christians either doesn’t understand how much harm these people have truly done, or understands but somehow doesn’t think it’s a big deal. Both are offensive, although at least the former can be fought with education, while the latter is just stomach-churning.
(For the record, I usually don’t mind explaining things to people who honestly want to learn.)
If Asians are stereotyped as “not team players,” then why is the stereotype of Asians as “obedient and conformist” the only one that ever gets talked about?
If you think it’s harmful to deny Southeast Asians race-based financial aid in the college admissions process, then why have you characterized race-based financial aid as a racist way of putting down the people who get it?
If liberals doing all this and labeling it Christian is a pervasive and ongoing pattern, why are you the only person I’ve ever seen mention it?
You’ve misconstrued my beliefs and intentions often enough, and badly enough, that I don’t trust you to do the same for others.
You think “Bennett’s misrepresenting Jesus’s stance on wealth”, and yet you also think Sparrow’s doing the same — when all you know of Sparrow’s opinion so far is that she believes Bennett’s misrepresenting Jesus’s stance on wealth? That’s either a failure of logic or another instance of reading strange things into characters’ worldviews.
I can, have, and will back up any part of my “personal narrative” with concrete sources. Your narrative includes a lot of assertions and interpretations, and a notable lack of links.
I don’t doubt your personal experiences. What I doubt is your ability to interpret others’ feelings and motives, based on previous experience with you in political as well as nonpolitical arenas.
It’s strange that you’re trying to make this about “the bigotry that’s all around me”. I’m not a liberal Christian, nor are most of the people I interact with.
All further comments will be amended with [citation needed] as necessary.
X- As a Conservative and a Roman Catholic I think I may have a few words to say on this.
In MY Oppinion (note please) ANY far out extream political viewpoint, Liberal OR Conservative will cause damage to some members of a group/town/country. That said I have to agree with Erin that the extream conservative/religeon oppinion is more immeadiately toxic, especialy to the young who are not sure of themselves.
Fanatics of all stripes are toxic in the end, only the CAUSE matters to them it seems, not the people.
End oppinion.
