Chapter Four Page 26

Ann (voiceover): Besides, even if we didn’t care for each other, we had use for each other. Those two just may have had the finest technique we’ve measured. A talent truly worthy of being called Mastery.
No matter what reason they have for dropping out of contact . . . who’s going to keep us on our toes without them?
Tiger: I can handle myself, Master. Although if you get worried, we can always extend a challenge to the Wolf.
Ann: There’s an idea.
I wonder how much it would cost to fly them in from Germany once a month . . . ?
Tiger: Now, Master. Think of your budget.
How come it goes from page 25 to 28? Is that a typo?
Loving the series so far!
Yeah, that was a typo. Fixed, thanks!
It still says …page-28/ in the URL.
P.S Just started reading yesterday, and I’m really enjoying the comic (as can be seen by how much I’ve read).
Thanks for the catch — and I’m glad you like the comic!
Possibly Patrick’s previous boss -literally- dropped out of contact? It looks like a foot slipping on bird doings in panel 2, and that is seriously vertical territory, there.
Panel 2 depicts a battle between the Tiger and the Dog, so if that were the reason, I think Ann would know. Thus, the fact that she doesn’t know indicates that that’s probably not the reason.
The idea does raise some interesting questions, though. Being battles are effectively unreal for anyone besides the participants and their Masters (and Sparrow), and even they only experience it during declared battles- but how real is it for them? Interactions between Beings during battles have all the consequences you’d expect from the same interactions anywhere else, but what about interactions involving Masters, or involving aspects of the environment? If you pick a leaf from a tree in the arena and hold onto it when the battle ends, what happens? If you get pricked by a thorn in the arena or hit a rock hard enough to hurt yourself, what happens?
Perhaps even more interesting is the idea of bird doings in the arena in the first place. The arena is accessed by unknown means, but is that because it exists outside of the world we know, or just because the transport mechanism is outside of what we know? If it’s a place on Earth, why don’t cameras work there? If it’s not, why does it look so much like it could be? How far does the similarity go- there are trees and rocks and grass; are there also birds and squirrels and such? Is invoking a Being battle the only way to access it, or are there other means?
If you drop something in the arena and don’t pick it up before you leave, what happens?
