Bianca: Oh, Patrick . . . this sounds awful.

Miranda: Was he drinking a lot that day?

Patrick: Off and on.

Bianca: Cohen gets violent when he drinks . . . ?

Miranda: That’s not what I said!

He gets — maudlin. Depressed. Starts wallowing in the things he’s done wrong, thinks about making wild extravagant gestures to fix them. Also, starts losing his balance, has to stay steady by grabbing the furniture or the walls. Or, I guess, the Being.

Sometimes, he gets lucky, and makes a smart guilt-driven impulse decision.

But sometimes he screws things up, and only figures that out after it’s too late to take it back.

Patrick (flashback): Master, you’re scaring me —

Cohen (flashback): It’s okay. I’m not going to hurt you. Hold still.
