Transgender Day of Remembrance 2013
Nov20
In honor of the people we’ve lost, and to fight for everyone’s right to be safely open about who they are.
Part of the Transgender Day of Remembrance Webcomics Project, spreading awareness and supporting trans rights.
Thank you, Erin, for honoring this day. Tonight I will be lighting a candle for a close transgender friend who took her own life recently. The others I will honor tonight will serve as a stark reminder that there are situations where I and other trans folk just aren’t safe. I don’t know what was going thru Natalie’s mind at the end, but it didn’t help her to know that of all the people who laugh at you and marginalize you, some may even hate you badly enough to kill you.
I’m very sorry to hear about your friend. No matter what was on her mind, the rest of us need to do a much better job of supporting and protecting trans people. Wishing you the best tonight.
Praise to Erin – thank you for this!
